Pitti Fashion Fair in Florence, from the 19th to the 22nd of June

Here we are... Pitti Man Fashion Fair is back in town! From 19th to the 22nd of June, Florence will host Pitti Immagine Uomo #82. 

1,065 fashion brands in Florence, at the Fortezza da Basso, plus another 75 women’s collections at Pitti W at the Dogana. And then there are the buyers: the last summer edition of Pitti Uomo welcomed more than 32,000 visitors, 20,000 of whom were buyers from the world’s most important retailers, large and small.

Here is a partial list of the main previews and special projects scheduled for this edition of Pitti Uomo: 

• WP "Lavori in Corso" will be celebrating its 30th anniversary and will present the first collection created for Baracuta, the iconic brand they recently acquired; 
• the important world première showing 7 For All Mankind men’s collection; 
• Ben Sherman presents EC1, the international launch of the new Ben Sherman men’s collection in one of the Fortezza’s most special areas, the Cannoniera; 
• the historic name in denim G-Star, has selected an important venue within the Fortezza to stage an exhibition-event RAW Denim Dome. The contemporary denim brand will present a new, unusual and totally creative look at denim – RAW denim; 
• the European preview of Deus Ex Machina, the biker and surfer cult label;
• Edun, the eco-fashion label created by Ali Hewson – who is married to Bono Vox – is returning to Pitti Uomo; 
• the European première of Scott James, American brand that will present its sophisticated total look in a special space at the Costruzioni Lorenesi; 
• Dekker has booked the Sala della Volta for the exclusive launch of the new collection. 
• the important return of Siviglia, that will participate at Pitti Uomo with the trousers and accessory project of Siviglia White, the cutting edge line of the brand that is the result of a two years of research and experimentation on luxury Vintage; 
• the presentation of the first men’s footwear line of Giuseppe Homme, signed by Giuseppe Zanotti; 
• the world-première debut for Hancock, the collection designed by Timothy Everest; 
• Pirelli PZero is returning to Pitti Uomo with a major presence at the Fortezza; 
• Cesare Paciotti will be presenting the Premium footwear collection for men. 
• the celebration of the first 5 years of Orlebar Brown with the launch of a special capsule in collaboration with Getty Images.

Marilyn around Florence

In those days in florence there are two big exposition about the great Marilyn Monroe.

The first is organized by the Museo Ferragamo who wants to celebrate the most famous blond actress ever with a selection of dresses, shoes and accessories made by Salvatore Ferragamo through the years exclusively for her. A tribute that the Ferragamo family wants to pay 50 years after the tragic death of Marilyn. Starts the 19th of June.

While at the Gallery Hotel Art, just near Ponte Vecchio, there will be another exibition regarding the american actress. An exposure of unreleased black and white shoots of the Hollywood brightest star.

The whole set of photos were exposed at the famous Getty Gallery in London until the 20th of May, 22 photos to show the most intimate moments of the diva on the set and during his life. The show, organized with the collaboration of the Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery, will start on the 20th of June with a party at the Gallery Hotel Art.

Flower exhibition in Florence

I've finally found some time to publish those beautiful pictures of the 2012 Flowers exposition here in florence at the Giardino dell'Orticultura.

I've been there in two different days: the 25th of April along with a great number of people, and the following Sunday with the rain and obviously less people.

I really can't decide which one of my two visits to the exibition I've enjoyed the most. But I can tell you that those colors and perfumes were really marvellous.

Alongside with the flowers there wera also those beautiful pictures made by a little factory in Pistoia.

On the 25th there were also an italian VIP. I have to apologize with my reader, who would have liked me to interview him for the blog, but really I did not want to do it! I spend all my free time blogging and working so for a day I just wanted to relax and walk. I hope that he's not too mad at me for the refusal of his invitation. But I also noticed that he was surrounded by journalist and televisions, so I preferred to focus my attention to this..

My pictures of Vintage Selection fashion fair in Florence

Yesterday I went to the 2012 Vintage Selection fair, as every year. I love that inusual atmosphere and all the crazy people dressing like they were living in the 60s. 

In this edition I found several stores selling unique jewels by major brands such as Gucci, Chanel, Hermes, Dior. I fell in love with a pair of Chanel earrings and with a tiny pochette by Gucci (I think it's from 50s) that costs "only" 700 euros.

The fair lasts until Sunday. If you are going don't miss the nice retrò exhibition called I love archive.

Innovative exhibition in Florence, at Giorgio Vasari's house with video installation by Bill Viola

"500 OGGI Le Vite dell’Arte in Contemporanea" is a contemporary art project curated by Melania Lanzini and dedicated as part of the celebrations for the fifth centenary of the birth of Giorgio Vasari. Through an innovative exhibition that includes ten national and international artists, established and emerging who’s work with installation as a medium capable of embracing all other forms of art, 500 OGGI Le Vite dell’Arte in Contemporanea opens its doors to an exceptional setting in the palace that was once the former residence of Giorgio Vasari in Florence, close to Santa Croce.

The video installation Acceptance by internationally renowned and pioneering American video artist Bill Viola will be presented in the exhibition by FIRENZE ARTI VISIVE School of Fine Arts and will complement this important and prestigious event.

During the inauguration the Sala delle Arti e degli Artisti will be open to the public. The Salon’s interior includes floor to ceiling fresco’s painted by Vasari and is considered one of Florence’s hidden treasures of the 16th century.

Live! when the art meets the rock music

You have still some days to visit the excellent exhibition devoted to rock music in parallel with the contemporary art: Live! art meets rock music.

At Pecci Contemporary Art Museum of Prato (close to Florence) you can admire the original guitars, the LP covers, many pictures and videos of many rockstars (from David Bowie, to the Pink Floyds, from Sex pistols to U2) that are compared with the Abstract art, the sculpture and contemporary paintings of artists as Damien Hirst, Keith Haring, Basquiat, Andy Warhol.

An history that starts from 1969, the year of Woodstock and of the last live performance of the Beatles (above the Apple Records Roof building) and goes on through the 80s, the 90s and terminates in the 2009, the date of the death of Michael Jackson, maybe the last pop star we had, painted by David Lachapelle.

The exhibition ends at the 16th of September, when there will be a great party with MTV and Ceres.

Pitti Uomo Fashion Fair in Florence

Pitti Uomo Fashion fair is coming back: about 1.000 brands/collections expected at this edition.

From the 14th to the 17th of June, 2011 in Florence, Italy.

THE MAIN PAVILION is the heart of Pitti Uomo. There is a long waiting list of exhibitors who want to show their collections in the Main Pavilion at Fortezza da Basso, the place which over the past few seasons has established itself as the “container” where Pitti Uomo develops the most current lifestyle trends. But, the Main Pavilion is also the symbol of how the fair has evolved over the years, exploring the multifaceted spirit of the biggest names in men’s fashions. On the one hand we have the Lower Level, with names such as Boglioli, Brunello Cucinelli, Church’s, Cruciani, Isaia, Lardini and others – and collections that express an elegant contamination among classic, experimental and sportswear. And to meet their needs, Pitti Uomo is expanding the “Sport & Sport” section and will add another area, the Padiglione della Ghiaia entirely devoted to sportswear to complement the offering at the Cavaniglia Pavilion. Pitti Immagine 79: Men Fashion trade fair

For the 79th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, Trussardi dal 1911 presents its new Men’s Collection Fall/Winter 2011-12 in a spectacular runway show held at Stazione Leopolda in Florence. The show celebrates an important anniversary for the Italian fashion house: 100 years of excellence, quality, artisan workmanship, and exquisite details. The history of Trussardi is primarily a story about its finest material: leather. 100 years of artisan leather-working, a trade that has defined the group since 1911 when Dante Trussardi produced his first pair of leather gloves for his company. Milan Vukmirovic, the Creative Director of Trussardi dal 1911, focused on Trussardi’s DNA and used his distinctive, dynamic, self-possessed style to pay homage to the heritage and understated cosmopolitan luxury of the brand. Giovannni Mazzi is the respected florentine artist specializing in etching, he uses figurative way of expression. He is interested in philosophy and metaphysics. The main topics of his art are universal condition of human being, individual's position in modern society and endless pursuitness of happiness in life.
Giovanni was born with the affection to art. When he was 7 years old, he copied the greatest masters and later started developing his own style. He attended courses in comics and illustrations at the International School of Comics, studied free nude ( la scuola libera del nudo ) at Academy of Fine Arts and also he graduated graphic art at Academy of Florence.
In 2003 Giovanni founded with musician group called Il caffè degli zeri, where he experimented with different forms of expressions, combining paintings and graphic works with music.
In 2008 the artist founded a group called “le maleerbe” , which did plenty of installations and exhibitions.
Giovanni's mission as an artist is to have a dialog with people and definately he manages to move. The artist impacts viewers by making them forget for the moment about their perspective and contemplate about the relation of good and bad side of man's soul. As the result people ask questions, express their concerns and compare them with Giovanni's and in this way the chain of communication emerges between the artist and the viewers through the Art. And this is Giovanni Mazzi's mission and sense of doing what he is doing.
Stylistically his paintings and graphics are very much affected by the symbolism of ancient and contemporary philosophy, which suit the best in expression of concerns of the artist, which belong to the problems and concerns of the contemporary people.
He says "the art must be inconvenient, the art is ethic" .

Giovanni Mazzi has had many exhibitions in various cities in Italy between 2001 and 2010, among them 'Faust' and 'I fantasmi di Scano Boa' in caffè Giubbe Rosse in 2009 (in colaboration with other italian artists) in Florence. Presently he is working on the organization of the big exposition in New York, willing to show his works also to the global audience. He promises to show there some of his projects that is working on right now. One of them is a creation inspired by the the ancient story of Orfeo and Eurydica.

In Scandicci, there are works presented from last two years of this young and talented artist. It is an opportunity to meet Giovanni Mazzi in person and after seeing his paintings talk to him and ask him questions that he is so happy to get from people, and last but not least spend nice time drinking Chianti in the beautiful tuscan landscape in the villa not far from the Center of Florence.

Summer Fair in Lastra a Signa

Summer fair in Lastra a Signa, not far from Florence: 4 days of events and meeting occasions. The places are the old town, the new piazza Garibaldi, the River Park and on the 29th of august the area of "corea" and the stadium with the spectacular musical fireworks.

During these four days Lastra a Signa will present exhibitions, poetical, theatral and musical shows, the ancient tradeworks and the fireworks. The River Park will host for two days the traditional Horses and animals' fair and a new horses' exhibitions, like it used once.
How not mention the pictures' exhibition in the Spedale di Sant'Antonio - which will then be held in Tokyo - of the great photographer Massimo Listri?
This year's program presents two news: on Thursday 26th august the opening of piazza Garibaldi with a live concert of Banda Improvvisa, attended by the major and the authorities; on Friday 27th august "Bread and Theatre": the old town will become a big stage with performances that will have as a leading theme the Popular Tuscan Tradition.
The evening will offer the possibility of dining in the small lanes or in the place at discounted prices, attending the shows or performances taking place.

Pitti men fashion fair: a big kiss from Florence, Italy!

In these days Florence is showing its best... thanks to Pitti Immagine Uomo 77th edition in the whole city there are events, shows, openings, parties everywhere. The city is crowdy with glam and stylish people... it seems to be somewhere else, as New York or London!

The exhibition L’Oratorio di Santa Caterina all’Antella e i suoi pittori

The exhibition L’Oratorio di Santa Caterina all’Antella e i suoi pittori (the Oratorio di Santa Caterina all'Antella and its painters) in Bagno a Ripoli (Florence) will last until December, the 31.

Approximately in the nineties of the 14th century, in coincidence with the realisation of the paintings by Spinello Aretino, a large triptych by Agnolo Gaddi, today in the Uffizi Gallery, was placed above the altar of the Oratorio: it represented "Madonna col Bambino in trono fra i santi Filippo e Lorenzo" and, in the round frames of the cusps, Cristo benedicente and the characters of the Annunciazione. The temporary reallocation of the artwork in the Oratorio di Santa Caterina, recently restored, represents the main event of the exhibition.
This exhibition near Florence aims to temporarily reinstate the original conditions of the florentine church thanks to one of its most evocative features, thus celebrating the undoubted splendour of this place, both famous and secluded at the same time as a religious building as well as for being a treasure chest filled with important artworks.
The two most important painters of the last years of the 14th century in Florence and Tuscany, that is to say Spinello Aretino and Agnolo Gaddi, found themselves side by side in Antella, after having worked together in 1387 when drawing the projects for the sculptures of the cathedral of Florence and for the famous decoration of the sacristy of the church of San Miniato al Monte, where the frescoes with Storie di San Benedetto by Spinello were put side by side with the polyptych by Agnolo Gaddi, now shown in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
The first-rate role played by Spinello di Luca in the development of late Gothic art in central Italy is pointed out in the exhibition thanks to the presence of Crocifissione tra dolenti e quattro santi. The definitive return to the Oratorio of the the fresco lunette Madonna col Bambino e due angeli by Spinello Aretino with its related sinopia, that Spinello painted above the entrance door of the Oratorio, is equally important.

Within the exhibition, it is necessary to remark the role of the relatively “minor” characters of Maestro di Barberino and Pietro Nelli, authors of the first phase of painting decorations of the Oratorio dating back to mid 14th century. Pietro Nelli's art is represented by an Annunciazione coming from a private collection and by round frames with detached frescoes, respectively representing Santi Antonio Abate e San Domenico, coming from the Franciscan building complex of Santa Croce in Florence.

Saint Catherine was particularly venerated during the Middle Ages and was considered the protector of judges and notaries.

What's on in Florence in March

In few days a brand new exhibit will start at Palazzo Strozzi, in the center of Florence.

Palazzo Strozzi will host a great exhibition sponsored by the Ministry for Cultural Heritaged and Region of Tuscany, that is dedicated to Galileo Galilei, the man who led to the current conception of the universe.
The exhibition reconstructs the history of the Cosmos, as designed and shown extending the Scientific Revolution, in the context of social and cultural events that have characterized the Mediterranean and European civilization. An exciting journey that starts with the visions and mystical poetry prior to the Greeks, passing through the vital contribution of astronomy and Arab lands to the revolutionary theory of Copernicus shot from Galileo and Kepler, which contributed significantly the affirmation of the final new concept of the universe.

This fascinating history is illustrated dramatically from scientific instruments of exceptional beauty and ingenuity, celestial atlases, drawings, paintings, sculptures, archaeological finds and precious illuminated manuscripts from the most prestigious museums and libraries around the world. All this is explained and supported by extraordinary operating cosmological models made for the occasion. Multimedia applications and suggestive movies explore the key issues.

Street art at Theater Puccini

Starting from February 5th in the foyer of the Puccini Theater there is a very interesting show called “Crossing clouds” with the drawings of Diego della Posta who will be at the opening which starts at 7pm.

During the opening of the exhibition there will be a rich buffet offered by the famous restaurant Acqua al due; the show will be open every day, but on Sundays, from 3,30pm to 7pm with a free entrance.
Comics, balloons, clouds: these ephemerals, unreal but powerful images are the fulcrum of the exhibition proposed by the Puccini Artexpo.

The street art in Italy has not a happy life even if there are evidences that it has some kind of dignity, like the painting of the façade of the Sant’Antonio Abate in Pisa church painted by the artist Keith Haring twenty years ago.

Vintage selection at Leopolda Station in Florence

Like every year at the Leopolda station there is the Vintage fair. I like a lot vintage clothing that’s why I never miss these opportunity to browse, even if this year the fair is smaller. I went to visit the genius guys from Officina Vintage. They are enthusiastic about that; they decided to open their third shop in town!

In the middle of their stand, a series of old and famous sunglasses like the Persol, wore by Steve McQueen and Mastroianni; they have a very impressive collection of old Burberry, as well.
The nicest area of the fair is in a hidden corner of this amazing building. Revised clothing’s, mixed pieces and colors, chairs made with various kind of materials and a nice bookstore with fashion magazines.
I also realized that while I was walking through the different stands, there was the Angel’s bar, the one in via del Proconsolo where you can drink something. And if fact I did, it was aperitif time, by the way!
Nice music, not so loud, amazing setting and a very interesting atmosphere.
The organization has improved a lot from last year: the hours are longer, until 10pm and a bar where you can taste something and spend a different afternoon by yourself or with a friend.
Entrance costs just 5 euros.

Vintage Selection fair in Florence

Vintage fair is coming back in Florence from wednesday, January the 28th.

As last year I will go to see (and maybe to buy) all the vintage clothes, shoes, bags, accessories. It's very funny to see all that old stuff gathered together! But if you are lucky you can find an original Gucci bag from the 50s!!
You can visit also Oliviero Toscani's exhibition "Workwear" in the same building: Stazione Leopolda (Viale Fratelli Rosselli).

Pitti fashion fair in Florence

This is, nevertheless to say, the most important event in town. It happens twice a year and it brings into Florence, 17 million and 600,000 Euros! Despite the crisis the fair shows that the men fashion is not in crisis at all and in fact there were many made in Italy fashion houses, such as Laura Biagiotti, Furla Man, and a Japanese debut, Comme des garcons.
To synthesize the trends for next winter I should say the following:

Classic: Prince of Wales, cachemire, tartan, British, a very elegant man, fine and very chic, a modern dandy.
But at the same time, a technologic man, sporty-chic and a man, who loves colors, wearing down jackets, sneakers and boxer with very shining colors.
In short: a man has to wear something that is very comfortable in and even a polo sweater can be considered elegant if it is done with precious fabrics.

Not only fashion and glamour but also social activities:

Work, fashion, seduction: work wear. The Oliviero Toscani photo shows that put together work wear with haute couture clothing, playing with contaminations and social remarks.
Charity: the new brand whatever it takes which attended also the Florence Magazine party produces T-shirt with the Pink Panther and Tweety designed by some VIPs, such as David Bowie, George Clooney, and Gwen Stefani. They are sold for charity and they support poor country or such as Mason's which sells T-shirt to support the rebuilt of the Buddhist Monastery of Pomaia.

Last thing, Marvelous Italy: all the external arrangement took inspiration from the local little Italian village's festival.

Pitti Man Fashion Fair has arrived in Florence to brighten our dark January nights...

On tuesday I have been to Firenze Magazine Pitti party. It was great!
Live music, visual art and dancefloor dalliance in a spectacular location: the Palagio di Parte Guelfa (the settling of Florence Historical Soccer Game), close to the Arno River. A lot of glamourous people dancing and drinking all night long.
The bar served italian designer Roberto Cavalli's vodka on a leopard-style spotted carpet while fabulous disco music was performed by the resident dj.
