Once famously described as possessing a style akin to 'Elton John meets Edith Piaf', the Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Crowe is renowned for her ability to blend control and melodrama." (MOJO magazine, UK)
"Ever wonder what it would have been like to listen to a gifted singer/songwriter from Saskatchewan in a small, intimate hall before she became Joni Mitchell? Don't fret the missed opportunity. There's no need to turn back the clock. Check out Allison Crowe." Robert Reid, The Record (Canada)
"Allison Crowe has a voice to fall in love with. She is from Vancouver Island in Canada, descended from Scottish, Irish and Manx stock. She's exactly the sort of artist who can make serious headway on her own label and that's just what she's doing." ~ Record of the Day (UK)

Rik van den Bosch live for the first time in Italy
Radio Radicchio and Indietravel present Rik van den Bosch live for the first time in Italy. Two unique shows, in Florence and in Montaione, to see a musician soaked in many different influences. Rik absorbs and elaborates them during his tireless wanderings throughout the world. He's a real globetrotter-songwriter and his guitar and his harmonica will take the audience to a trip crawled by his unique folk-blues-Americana. In 2002, Rik made a journey from New Orleans to New York, with a guitar, a bicycle and a little tape recorder, to find the roots of the music he loves. The album "A Musical Impression Of A Journey From New Orleans To New York" came out of this experience. After publishing "Out Of Town" e "Blues For The Lowlands", Rik began working to "Coffee, Cigarettes And Beer", an album Rik himself defines as "folk, eclectic, old country blues style, Mexicana, emofolk, singersongsongs, country, rhythm and blues, and also mixtures between them". Rik's cover version of "Heaps Of Sheeps" is in Robert Wyatt's album "Robert Wyatt, Anthologie du Projet MW". His latest work is an EP called "Sea Side Mountain Side", recorded in Spain and featuring collaborations from many great Spanish musicians. Enjoy Rik van den Bosch live on April 24th at the NOF Gallery in Florence (start 10.30 pm) and 25th at pub Lo Strettoio at Montaione.

Electric Party at Villa Romana in Florence
Electric Party is a stream of dramatic elements – songs, rhythm, dance, poetry – that emerge from a seemingly casual atmosphere, a party in which the poetic word intersects with the present circumstances in which we are living. This experiment in artistic contact explores the edges of theatrical and social behavior, and plays with the sometimes ambiguous division between them. Electric Party is an articulated game that unfolds throughout the night: songs, poems, dances and actions appear and disappear without resolution, continually playing with the rhythms of the party, riding its waves. While the guests eat, socialize, drink and dance, the gathering arrives to moments of high intensity through structured and precise sequences of action performed by the Open Program team.
This event takes place at Villa Romana in Florence. Please bring with you an offering to the Party of something to drink or eat.

Los Angeles Singer-Songwriter perfoming in Florence!

Don’t let the demure face fool you. When judging Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jacqueline Becker by her cover, key in instead on that mass of black hair cascading down in an unmanageable frenzy as the best physical allegory of just what this girl’s voice is capable of, because in her case, big hair certainly means big voice. A music degree from Yale and a lifetime of study no doubt form the foundation for her talent, but when Becker sings, it’s easy to forget about the more formal elements of composition in the absolute rush of emotion her music inspires. Perfect pitch, astounding range, and sheer vocal muscle have all combined on what can only be described as an epic scale to lend her voice its uniquely thrilling factor; couple that with her carefully-crafted songs that boast the soul-plucking rhythms of the best kind of jazz, and clever lyrics that impressively succeed at echoing both the spunk and the emotional capacity of their writers, and you’ve got an artist that effortlessly walks the fine line between being a throwback to a better era and someone refreshing and original in her own right. She has the surging power of an Alicia Keyes and the delicate restraint of a Norah Jones, a deft navigation of the balance between might and tenderness.
Acoustic guitar, violin, bass, and various percussion with an incredibly clean and natural voice.
Following the release of her new album, the Los Angeles singer -together with her band from California- will make Florence the base of her Italian tour. Original songs coming from jazz, eclectic pop rhytms and a soul personality with a California flair.
Check her beautiful melodies on her Myspace page!
Jacqueline will be at the Soccer Stadium Franchi (Estate Viola) on July 6th, at Teatro del Sale on July 7th and at the Limonaia di Villa Strozzi on the 13th of July.

Nextech Festival, electronic music in Florence

The festival aims to document the broad spectrum of electronic sound for audiences interested in new musical trends and cutting edge experimentation, as well as 'beat' dance enthusiasts, who enjoy music as a source of entertainment.
For three days, the Nextech Festival will accompany participants from the aperitif hour right through to the early hours of the morning, combining various expressions of electronic music, in conjunction with the surrounding area, with the passage of time, as well as with different arts and techniques.
The venue for the festival is of particular interest: it is a 19th century railway station, which has been turned into an arts center. The imposing aisles of the Stazione Leopolda will be filled with the atmosphere of a big event, just like a party, where it will be possible to participate, to ‘play’ with the events, concerts, performances and layouts.
From 6.00 p.m. every day, the Nextech Festival will offer an exploratory itinerary through today’s wide variety of electronic music, from the rhythms of the dance floor to more advanced sound research, to music as an element of environmental architecture; providing recognition, within various expressive spheres, of an interdisciplinary and innovative proposal, amidst constantly alternating sounds ranging from vibrant techno beats to delicate minimal atmospheres.
The complete programme of the festival is avaliable on the Nextech Festival website: www.nextechfestival.com
Where: Stazione Leopolda - Viale Fratelli Rosselli 5 - Florence
Starting time: 6 p.m. until late night
The Nextech Festival will be organized by Musicus Concentus, Intooitiv, Stazione Leopolda Srl and Controradio, with the contribution of the Councilor’s Office for Culture of Florence as part of the FirenzEstate ’08 events.
